Ubuntu 18.04 Update to Kernel 5.0

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS – Bionic Beaver

The 18.04.2 and newer point releases will ship with an updated kernel and X stack by default for the desktop. Server installations will default to the GA kernel and provide the enablement kernel as optional.

The 18.04 HWE Stacks will follow a new Rolling Update Model as documented at the following location:

Installing the HWE stack is simple:

Desktop

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-18.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-18.04  

Server

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-18.04 

Delete Old Kernel

Show all the current kernels in system

dpkg --get-selections | grep linux-image  
dpkg --get-selections | grep linux-headers  
dpkg --get-selections | grep linux-modules  

Delete linux kernel 4.*

sudo apt-get purge linux-image-4.* 
sudo apt-get purge linux-headers-4.*  
sudo apt-get purge linux-modules-4.*  
update-grub
